Seedance Pricing 2026: Public Beta, API Billing, and Free Access Update

Feb 11, 2026
Updated: Apr 2, 2026

Seedance pricing changed materially on April 2, 2026. If you still see pages claiming a simple global setup like "5 free videos per day, Pro at $10/month, API at $0.05 per generation," treat them as outdated.

The current picture is more fragmented:

  • China enterprise API access now runs through Volcengine / ModelArk public beta
  • Domestic API billing is now discussed as pay-as-you-go, not only large framework contracts
  • Consumer access still lives mostly inside Dreamina / CapCut and related ByteDance apps
  • Global consumer rollout and global developer API rollout are no longer the same thing

What Changed on April 2, 2026

On April 2, 2026, Chinese tech media reported that Volcengine announced Seedance 2.0 API public beta for enterprise users at a Wuhan AI roadshow. On the same day, Volcengine's official Seedance API documentation showed a fresh update timestamp, which confirms that the China-side API rollout moved again on April 2.

That matters because many older Seedance pricing guides were built around a consumer-style subscription story:

  • a fixed free tier
  • a fixed "Pro" plan
  • a simple flat API price per generation

Those assumptions are no longer safe.

Current Pricing Map

The most accurate way to understand Seedance pricing today is by access channel, not by a single universal plan table.

What We Can Actually Verify About Price

1. China API billing is no longer best described as "$0.05 per generation"

That old line is too simple and is not the safest way to describe Seedance anymore.

Chinese media summaries of Volcengine's published pricing in early March described Seedance 2.0 API billing as:

  • RMB 46 per million tokens for requests without video input
  • RMB 28 per million tokens for requests with video input

Those numbers are far more specific than the older "$0.05/gen" claim, and they point to a token-based billing model rather than a universal flat per-clip rate.

Because output length, modality mix, and workflow shape can change actual spend, we no longer recommend publishing a single official "per generation" price unless Volcengine posts one publicly.

2. There is no single public global "Pro" price we can trust everywhere

Older Seedance pages often repeated a simple consumer story such as:

  • free tier
  • Pro around $10/month
  • Business plan

That model is now too brittle for a production site.

As of April 2, 2026, we can verify channel-specific consumer access and China enterprise API access, but we cannot verify one globally stable public "Seedance Pro" price page that cleanly applies across Dreamina, CapCut, BytePlus, and Volcengine.

Is Seedance Free?

The best current answer is:

Seedance still has free or trial-style consumer access in some channels, but there is no longer one universal public free-tier description we would hard-code sitewide.

That means the old statements below should be retired:

  • "5 free videos per day"
  • "permanent free tier"
  • "no credit card required everywhere"
  • "same free terms worldwide"

Free access now depends on:

  • app surface
  • region
  • campaign timing
  • whether you are using a creator-facing tool or the enterprise API

Is Seedance Cheaper Than Sora?

This is now a harder comparison than it looked in February.

The old shortcut was:

  • Seedance: free tier plus low-cost Pro
  • Sora: higher starting subscription

The more honest April 2, 2026 answer is:

  • consumer pricing is channel-specific
  • enterprise API pricing in China is token-based
  • global API availability is still uneven

So the right question is no longer "Which sticker price is lower?" but:

  • are you buying consumer credits or enterprise API usage?
  • are you in China or outside China?
  • do you need a direct developer API, or only browser-based generation?

Enterprise Access and Reported Restrictions

We can verify that enterprise onboarding now matters much more than older consumer-style guides suggested.

What we can state confidently:

  • Volcengine API public beta is aimed at enterprise users
  • official China docs and activation flow now matter more than Dreamina-style how-to guides
  • creator access and enterprise API access should be described separately

There are also April 2 media reports about new-customer restrictions such as:

  • default 10 concurrency
  • large security deposits
  • stricter rules for real-person faces and custom avatar workflows

We have not found a public official tariff page that fully confirms all of those commercial terms line by line, so we treat them as reported sales-side conditions, not universal public documentation. If you are negotiating a Seedance contract, confirm them directly with Volcengine before treating them as guaranteed.

Overseas Status: Consumer Access vs Developer API

This is the point most Seedance pricing pages now get wrong.

Two different things happened in late March:

  1. Reports said ByteDance had paused parts of its wider global API push earlier in March.
  2. On March 26, 2026, TechCrunch reported that ByteDance said Dreamina Seedance 2.0 was rolling out in CapCut.

Then on April 1, 2026, CapCut's newsroom said rollout had expanded for paid users in additional overseas markets.

So the most accurate pricing and access summary is:

  • global consumer access exists in some markets
  • global direct developer API availability is still limited and inconsistent

That is why we no longer write "overseas users currently have no official access at all." That statement is too broad after the late-March rollout updates.

Practical Buying Advice

If you are a creator

Use Dreamina / CapCut style access first. Treat pricing as channel-specific and check the current app UI before promising a fixed quota or subscription rate to your team.

If you are a China-based developer or enterprise buyer

Use Volcengine / ModelArk as the source of truth. Plan for:

  • enterprise verification
  • model activation
  • token-based billing
  • possible seller-side concurrency or compliance constraints

If you are outside China and need direct API access

Do not assume consumer rollout means open developer API. Check the latest BytePlus / ModelArk docs for your region before you commit engineering time.

FAQ

Is Seedance free to use?

Consumer-side free or trial-style access still exists in some Seedance channels, but the quota now varies by app, region, and date. We no longer recommend hard-coding one universal free-tier number.

How much does Seedance Pro cost?

There is no single public global "Seedance Pro" price we can verify as authoritative across all channels on April 2, 2026. Old "$10/month" summaries are too brittle.

What is the Seedance API price per generation?

The more current China-side description is token-based billing through Volcengine / ModelArk, not a single official flat per-generation price.

Does Seedance offer enterprise pricing?

Yes. Enterprise access is now central to the China API story, especially after the April 2 public beta update.

Can I try Seedance before paying?

Yes, but "trying Seedance" now usually means using consumer-facing tools such as Dreamina / CapCut or related product surfaces, not a globally open public API.
